Houseplant Appreciation Day - 10th January

Benefits of Houseplants

Fed by Instagram’s greenery- inspired interior designs, plant-based reels and influencers, indoor gardening has been a growing and long-lasting trend because of the many ways houseplants improve health and well-being.

Houseplants are commonly grown for decorative purposes but it gets forgotten that they also have many positive health and psychological effects!

Formaldehyde, Ammonia and Benzene are common indoor air pollutants. Houseplants can remove these from the atmosphere inside your home – therefore houseplants are known as ‘nature’s air purifiers’. They also remove carbon dioxide from the air during photosynthesis. This can help us feel less fatigued.

Some houseplants like Orchids, Bromeliads and Succulents, release oxygen at night, so placing these plants in our bedroom may help us sleep better.

Did you know? Houseplants release water vapour into the air, helping to raise humidity levels indoors. The right amount of humidity in the air can relieve dry skin and lips, help to prevent dry throats and sinus irritation, prevent nosebleeds and reduce the likelihood of allergies. Amazing right?

Houseplants can contribute to our well-being. Studies show that plants provide mental health benefits. Being around plants helps us feel more calm and relaxed, thus decreasing levels of anxiety. Nurturing and caring for our plants can also reduce stress levels and boost our mood.

National Houseplant Appreciation Day is an official opportunity to remind people of the benefits of houseplants. After Christmas, removing all the red ribbons and greenery can make things feel a bit stark. But this very timing makes National Houseplant Appreciation Day the perfect opportunity to brighten up your home with the sharp splash of green that is provided by a living plant!

Here at Meadow Croft, we like to celebrate Houseplant Appreciation Day so we're giving our customers 25% off Houseplants between Monday 8th January - Sunday 14th January 2024.
