Gardening Jobs for November

Posted: 30 Oct 2023

So the clocks have gone back, and we're starting to see those nights drawing in earlier.

Here are the best gardening jobs to get done during November.

  • Plant tulip bulbs, covering with compost at least 2 x the depth of the bulb.
  • Move alpine planters under cover and out of winter rain.
  • Lift dahlia tubers after the first frost. Clean and store them in dry compost in a frost-free place.
  • Gather fallen leaves and put into a compost bin.
  • On rainy days, plan what seeds you are going to plant next year!
  • Insulate glasshouses with bubble wrap.
  • Put grease bands around the trunks of fruit trees to stop winter moth damage.
  • Provide additional shelter for wildlife in the winter.
  • Prune apple and pear trees once they are dormant.
  • Continue to mow lawns but lift the mower blades up higher.
  • Lift terracotta and ceramic pots and place on pot feet to prevent ice damage.
  • Remove pond pumps and insulate taps to prevent frost damage.
